The Promise of Tomorrow: The First Generation 1940-1960

Directed by Anna Giannotis. 58 minutes.

Born out of the Greek Heritage Society of Southern California’s oral history project, this is the second installment of The Greeks of Southern California Through the Centuries trilogy. From somber second-world-war stories and detailed accounts of church building to giddy accounts of having to wear a foustanella, this is the story of first generation Greek Californians. Olympia Dukakis’s voice, archival film and photos and interviews by ordinary folk and celebs alike tell the story. The trilogy began in 2002 with The Pioneers:1900-1942. A third film is on its way.
