Eleni Karaindrou. Mikri Arktos. 3-CD set (22 tracks)
The composer Eleni Karaindrou is known to Greek and international audiences for her film scores and especially her collaboration with director Theodoros Angelopoulos. Yet the prolific Karaindrou has also written the scores for several theater performances–and twenty-two are contained in this three-CD set, accompanied by photos from selected performances. The mood alternates between light and dark but as these are mostly instrumental short themes, the music is never weighed down but flows easily. Scored plays include Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (that includes a delightful saxophone theme “Me George, That’s Who”), The Birthday Party, and The Seagull.
