Dressing up
Fashion, that is jewelry and clothes, is the most popular expression of the decorative arts. Two museums that excel in their respective fields, the Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum and the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, showcase these distinct, yet related worlds of design in a joint exhibition from their collections. Juxtaposing jewelry designs from collections spanning the period 1947 to 2008 against folk costumes from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries allows the viewer to more clearly see the sources of inspiration for many of Lalaounis’s designs as well as how the same cultural elements and influences are expressed through these designs.
